The evening kicks off at 5pm with a Logic Pro workshop by Steve H.

Concert and Premier Performance Announcement

“Explorations for Keyboard and Orchestra” is a new composition by Dream Theater’s keyboardist, Jordan Rudess. “Explorations” is Rudess’ first composition for orchestra and fulfills a dream that began as a prodigy at the renown Juilliard School of Music. “I once had the opportunity at Juilliard to watch Pierre Boulez conduct Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring”. The passion in the composition combined with the power of the full orchestral sound made a huge impact on me. I’ve sat in front of my synthesizers for years, twisting the knobs, trying to recreate that power. With “Explorations”, I will finally be able to hear one of my own compositions brought to life by that unmistakable sound of a live acoustic orchestra”.

Jordan says this about his new work.
“Explorations” is a total “progressive” music experience. “Progressive” in that it is a forward thinking composition fusing my classical and progressive/metal sensibilities, but also progressive in that I will be playing a keyboard connected to an Apple Macbook Pro running MainStage software . In writing this composition, I was able to bring together the elements of the most influential classical music I’ve experienced, along with the rock power and intensity that I am known for in my work with Dream Theater”.

In addition to “Explorations”, Rudess and the orchestra will also be performing music from Dream Theater’s repertoire including “Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence”. Rudess says, ” I personally invite all of my fans in Venezuela to come to this concert and experience Dream Theater’s music in a symphonic setting. Imagine the power of Dream Theater’s music realized by full string, wind, brass and percussion sections! Dream Theater’s fans in Venezuela are some of the most passionate fans we have and their classical orchestras are renown throughout the world. That’s why I’ve chosen Venezuela to premiere my first symphonic work.”

One of the amazing things about the concerts in Venezuela will be the introduction of a phenomenal young talent from Turkey named Eren Basbug.

Jordan says:
Eren was introduced to me through the magic of Youtube. Someone forwarded me a video of Eren performing orchestrations of numerous Dream Theater pieces beautifully. “He created the orchestrations, assembled a full orchestra and conducted them in concert. I was so impressed by his talent and energy that I got in touch with him and told him about my idea to write a piece for keyboard and orchestra. Needless to say, he wanted to be involved and helped me make that happen”.

“Creating this is a DREAM come true for me, and thankfully with the help of ”Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Chacao” and its management, we will have a THEATER for the dream to turn into reality!”

“At the World Premiere of “Explorations for Keyboard and Orchestra”, I will be playing all of the keyboard/synthesizer parts. With Eren flying in from Turkey to conduct the enthusiastic Chacao Youth Symphony Orchestra and myself coming from NYC, it looks like we are set for a “night to remember”.

The concert will be at Centro Cultural Corp Banca. Address: Plaza La Castellana, Caracas. The date is Friday November 19th.

Closing this chapter is difficult because Mike and I are really close friends, have been great musical partners and he has been a vital part of Dream Theater. Still, opening up the next chapter is really exciting because DT is full of ideas and energy about the future. Mike is the ultimate rock drummer and I know he will be successful at whatever he does. Meanwhile, DT is moving forward quickly and looking forward to creating some great new music.

Portnoy, our lifelong drummer and friend, has
decided to leave Dream Theater. Mike’s stature in
the band has meant the world to all of us
professionally, musically, and personally over the
years. There is no dispute: Mike has been a major
force within this band.

While it is true that Mike is choosing to pursue other
ventures and challenges, we can assure you
that Dream Theater will continue to move forward
with the same intensity — and in the same musical
tradition — that you have all helped make so

Clouds and Silver Linings.”As planned, we begin
recording our newest album in January 2011, and

JR Update

Being home for a while has been really great. I’ve been able to dive into my new instruments and do a lot of things that ordinarily I would not have enough time for! Learning to play the Eigenharp and the Harpejji are really fun challenges for me. Both great instruments and very different. One thing that does help a lot is all the years training my fingers to move when my brain tells them to! I took the time to also set up a room in my house that is basically everything but my keyboards. It has all my toys in it. In there you will find the Eigenharp, the Harpejji, Axis 64, my Kaoss Pads, Tenori On and various cool effects. It was very cool to do the interview with Sam Dunn for the VH1 Metal Evolution series in here the other day, because it gave us a lot of room to spread out. I played a little Steinway for that so I guess we will see if any of that makes the cut!! We might have to wait a year before it airs though. I’ll let ya know!

I’m really excited about this because I have been wanting to teach live with video online for a while and reach out to as many people as possible. Some of you know that I have been using Vokle as well for some pretty cool international chats and even jams! That is an area that I plan to get more involved in as well. Using Vokle.com, really soon I will be able to have the JR Online Conservatory people have private sessions with me and I will be able to be on video and if you have the setup, you will be able to be on video as well! Now that is some technology! You can sigh up for my OC here.

Also having a great time with Kevin Chartier building a killer iphone app! It is so cool and I can hardly stand not being able to show it to you guys! A little more patience and I will unveil it!!

Also coming up really soon is my South American tour with an organization called Dream Theater. You guys remember them??

I do!! Really looking forward to getting out there to rock once again!
